The north wall at Status Skateshop has been our main entrance since our opening day. Unless it’s a rare rainy day here in Carlsbad, we always have our huge roll-up doors wide open to welcome our visitors. What an open canvas!
A project this size takes a lot of time to plan. It all started many months before by learning about the art and design of San Diego based muralist Nick Danger. Nick’s work can be found throughout San Diego and has been featured at many music festivals. His style is fun and accessible while carrying just the right amount of satirical edginess. Nick was recommended by Carlsbad artist and muralist and good friend of Status Skateshop – Bryan Snyder. In fact Nick was one of the artists who participated in the renowned rotating Carlsbad Art wall project that Bryan manages.
We wanted something unique to work within this space. It had to be bold and bright. A mix of beach and skateboard, wild and fun. Something that would appeal to our own diverse customer base from kids and families, to teens and adults. Nick checked all the boxes with his flowing series of elements leveraging the unique shapes available on our building canvas.
